CD of the Month
Maha Moha: The Great Delusion
By Wade Imre Morissette, September 2008
For his third outing, Wade Morissette collaborates with award-winning producer David Nichtern and creates what is at once a more accessible record than his previous works (in terms of the genre influences) and the next natural progression in his musical arc. Gone is the pop sheen of Strong as Diamonds -- replaced by more of a world music sound. The album stakes out its territory right away with the catchy worldbeat opener, "Guru Ma," an anthemic chant shared with world music hero Krishna Das (who also shows up on the album's best track). Morissette is still concerned with the consciousness-opening transcendent power that music has in long-form chants (he has crafted a modern version of kirtan chant music for much of this record). Whether the chant is a mantra repeated in English or some other tongue, Morissette and producer Nichtern play with the levels and layers of sound in a way that creates what can only be described as a "world/yoga" record. The synth programming washes that defined Strong as Diamonds have been replaced by instruments like the Bansuri flute (on "Inside") and the sarod. The album's standout track is "Burn It on the Fire," which sounds somewhat like an Us-era Peter Gabriel number -- and is buoyed by guest vocals by Krishna Das and a marvelous female singer named Manorama -- whose voice just happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to that of Morissette's twin sister, Alanis. The album closer is the haunting "OM," which literally has the ability to transcend and the production to match. Yet another quality record, and quite an achievement that Wade Morissette continues to find new and interesting ways to explore a territory that is uniquely his own. - Tomas Mureika, All Music Guide

| Ingredients: |
Luxury black tea, Sweetened coconut, Natural flavors.

Coconuts. Who doesn’t love them? The word coconut is thought to have been coined by Portuguese explorer Marco Polo. He thought that the 3 dark holes on their base made them look like a grinning face - in Portuguese “coco”. Ironically, the coconut tree is considered by many people to be the tree of life. Practically every part of a coconut and the tree itself is useable and has always played an important role in the life of tropical people. So what’s so ironic about that you ask? Well, falling coconuts kill an average of 150 people worldwide every year! That’s 15 times as many as sharks! Yikes. The danger comes from the fact that coconut trees can grow up to 100 feet in height. Luckily, this sweet and full bodied tea is best served at table height which averages about 2 feet.
What type of tea do we use, how do we flavor the tea and why do we use natural flavors?
Firstly... we only use high grown teas from the top 3 tea growing regions of Sri Lanka - Nuwara Eliya, Dimbula and Uva. These three high-grown districts produce flavorful teas that have classic ‘Ceylon’ tea character which is noted by floral bouquet and flavor notes, touches of mild astringency, bright coppery color and, most importantly - perfect for use as the base tea of our flavored teas. (We have tested teas from various other origins around the world as base stock for our flavored teas, but none of these teas made the grade.) Dimbula and the western estates of Nuwara Eliya have a major quality peak during Jan/Feb, whereas Uva and the eastern estates of Nuwara Eliya have their peak in July/Aug. This ‘dual peak period’ allow us to buy the best for our flavored tea blends several times during the year, ensuring top quality and freshness.
Secondly... we use flavoring oils not crystals to give the tea drinker an olfactory holiday before indulging in a liquid tea treat. Thirdly… we specify natural flavors. High quality tea tastes good and natural flavors do not mask the natural taste of the high grown Ceylon tea. (The norm for many making flavored tea is to use overpowering artificial flavors, which can be used to hide lower quality tea). Natural flavors do not leave an aftertaste giving the tea a clean and true character. It should be noted that natural flavors tend to be somewhat ‘soft ‘ and the flavors slightly muted, but for many this is a refreshing change and one of the desired attributes of our naturally flavored teas.

Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of tea for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea). Even though milk and a dash of sugar help enhance the flavor character on this tea, it is perfectly acceptable to consume this tea ‘straight-up’
Iced tea brewing method: (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 6 teaspoons of tea into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water]. Please note that this tea may tend to go cloudy or ‘milky’ when poured over ice; a perfectly normal characteristic of some high quality black teas and nothing to worry about!

Life is…A Walk in the Park
By Susan Verhoogt, Reiki Master & Intuitive Life Coach @ the Divine Mine
Being out in nature is a huge source of inspiration for me. I realize over and over again that a walk in nature is no different then walking the journey of life. Walking my dog Coco each day in and around the Bragg Creek area is such a gift and wondrous adventure. Sometimes it might take a little while, but soon enough my whole being is drawn into its immovable silence through nature. This gentle, peaceful, unconditional silence that is always there, like a beloved patiently waiting for my busy mind to rest and for me to come home. Silent and yet so full of life, vibrant, a pool of inspiration where infinite creativity springs from. A place where everything is so clear, where even the biggest challenges are perceived as opportunities for growth and expansion verses them being a problem. Yesterday early morning I was walking through the fall scenery, bathing in dazzling colors and scents.
As I walked along the road towards the park, I saw a styrofoam container with remnants of food in it, lying on the ground. As I saw this my ‘inner re-cyclist’ started to fume, while in the mean time Coco ran up to it and started to lick up the food that was in there. Immediately I saw how the same styrofoam container caused two opposite reactions in both me and Coco: me being resistant to what was in the moment, and Coco taking the opportunity to have a great experience. Both of us were not aware of our reactions in that moment – we both were simply in the flow of it until I had my “aha” moment and became the observer. I started laughing and realized how the same experience can either be a problem or an opportunity, depending on how we experience it. That we, as human beings, have a choice once we become aware of it.
Later on in the walk I paused to look at a beautiful tree. The leaves were painted with various dazzling fall colors and were all in different stages of being let go of. Some of them were slowly falling down, carried by the gentle breeze until they softly landed on the forest floor. Some of the leaves that were still attached to the tree were yellow mixed with brown and green. I realized that us human beings are like these leaves: all in a certain stage of experiencing life (or life experiencing itself as leaves in different stages, depending on how we look at itJ), yet all part of the same tree. When we experience ourselves as individual leaves we don’t feel or know that we are part of the same tree. Even when it comes to spirituality, us human beings tend to compare ourselves with others, checking in where we are at in our spiritual growth. We might think things like: I am more advanced then he is, but she is way ahead of me. And…oh my God, that person still has a long ways to go! Simply by looking at the tree I watched how even though we are part of the whole, we do have an individual experience until we realize our oneness in our beingness (not just as a concept).
Life is such an incredible journey. When we are caught up in resistance, judgment and comparison we miss out on the beauty and spontaneity of the flow of life. When we notice the judgment and resistance, we are in the flow and start to live life to the fullest. From here we can turn any challenge from a problem into an opportunity for expansion and growth. It is our choice. Enjoy each moment. Life’s a journey, not a destination.
Susan will be facilitating the following mediation groups this month: Friday, October 2nd Rise and Shine Meditation, and Friday, October 23rd Divine Journey Meditation. She will also be hosting a Coming to Your Senses Workshop on Monday, October 19th as well as several Reiki Instruction Courses.

October Horoscopes
By Carl Klimuk, Astrologer, Master Herbologist & Wholistic Practitioner @ the Divine Mine
Aries 1
This is a good month for you to focus on paying more attention to the relationships within your home & family. Take the time to beautify your surroundings, renovate, balance or clean your home. Love can spark for many Aries this month, but so can insecurities within relationships for others.
Taurus 2
Romance blooms! This is a fun & creative period for you, reconnect with children for those who have them and for those who don’t, reconnect with your inner child. You may also find yourself in high demand by those who need you. Balance how much you can share or give of yourself with your own needs.
Gemini 3
Time to balance your health this month. Many will be going through a de-tox period; this is a good month to get your health on track. One of the reasons you’re a little health sensitive maybe is because you’ve been overworking, trying to fix the rest of the world while your own house falls apart is unbalanced. Organize your accounts as well as your time and energy.
Cancer 4
This is a very social period for Cancerians, friends, groups & organizations will be your focus this month. Life might get a little crazy this month with a lot of unexpected twists and turns, dare we say soap opera? Reconnect with the beauty of nature, a walk or good hike will do you a lot of good!
Leo 5
You are going to play the role of teacher this month! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself giving a lot of advice or you have people coming to you seeking answers. This is also a month where traveling may do you good. The library or bookstores beckon, education in all forms, learn, learn, learn…..and then teach!
Virgo 6
Education and learning play an important role for you this month, but this kind of learning has to do with the deep inner recesses of your psyche and spirit. This is a good month for you to reconnect with yourself, self help books will be a draw, many may feel an urge to seek some sort of philosophical guidance. Forming a vision for your future will be fulfilling.
Libra 7
A work & career month for you. Many will find yourselves busy at work, new learning & educational opportunities, or learning new skills lead to a further growth and expansion of your career. This is a time for you to see where and how you need to grow in the work that you do.
Scorpio 8
This is a month to be noticed, fame and reputation will be highlighted. This is a month to be seen and heard, you are to take positions of leadership. You will have the courage and bravery to take on the world and stand up for injustice. Exercise & physical activity will do you much good.
Sagittarius 9
It’s time to show off your artistic side, explore the realms of the spirit & soul through some form of artistic expression. It could be painting, music, dance, writing whatever medium stirs your spirit into being able to express itself is good. Sleep is particularly important this month as dreams will be vivid and strong.
Capricorn 0
Identity crisis? This is a month for you to make some changes as to how you present and express yourself. You may discover something new that begins to change old belief systems and ways of thinking. A greater sense and need for personal freedoms are highlighted.
Aquarius -
This is a money month for you! In particular though it’s not just about money but all things that you value in your life, you are being asked to reevaluate what’s really important versus what is only superficial. Old forms of income may sputter while new forms emerge. Don’t overextend or spread yourself too thin financially. This is a month where you are being asked to communicate your needs.
Pisces =
This is a month where you need to feel comfortable with your own thoughts & ideas. Don’t over analyze, you may find the answer to be much simpler than you thought. Turning molehills into mountains is a one way ticket to stress. Keep things simple, stop and smell the roses. You may also find yourself trying to comfort others.
Carl will be facilitating an Astrology Basics Workshop on Saturday, October 3rd and a Astrology 101 Workshop on Saturday October 17th.
