Tea of the Month

Strawberry Kiwi Herb & Fruit Tea

Country of Origin: Blend of various dried fruits and herbs from Canada, USA, Thailand, Spain
Cup Characteristics:
Bold strawberry kiwi flavor, tart, full bodied
Ingredients:

Luxury natural dried apple pieces, Hibiscus, Rosehip, Natural flavors.

Herb and fruit tea in some circles is considered a new type of tea. We formulated this blend to accommodate tastes of people who wanted to experience a refreshing healthy new style drink without caffeine. What we got was a terrific ‘tea’ that is unbelievably delicious and enjoyed Hot or Cold! This tea has a very exotic flavor profile. The delicious blend of strawberry and kiwi flavors combined with the natural flavors and tartness of the various dried fruits create a summertime cooler or a wintertime summer reminder.

This fruit and herb tea is one of our favorites. It is a full flavored tea with good body. During the spring in the northern latitudes when the strawberries become available they have a deep strawberry taste. This tea is like that but tempered with subtle essence of kiwi and the astringent tartness of hibiscus. We remember a holiday in Long Island picking strawberries at a ‘Pick Your Own’ out in The Hamptons - very pleasant memories. This tea will evoke similar feelings for you.
For a summer time drink Strawberry Kiwi iced is hard to beat. It is refreshing and thirst quenching and not overly sweet. For formal times garnish the glass with a strawberry and a sprig of mint - for non-formal times pour it into your glass and enjoy it gulp after gulp! If you have small children use the Strawberry Kiwi tea to make popsicles - they taste great and contain very little sugar.

By virtue of the fact that these blends do not contain any tea and are a special blend of fruits and herbs - they are caffeine free! An added benefit is that these ‘teas’ contain Vitamin C. What could be better - a healthy drink that tastes GREAT!

Hot tea brewing method: Place 1.5 to 2 teaspoons of Strawberry Kiwi per cup (and add 1 teaspoon for the pot) into the teapot. Pour boiling water into pot and let it steep for 3-7 minutes (or longer - the longer the steeping time to more intense the flavor becomes). Pour into your cup and add sugar to taste. **do not add milk - the milk will curdle due to the ingredients in this blend.

Iced tea-brewing method (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 12-15 teaspoons of Strawberry Kiwi into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water].

Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of mind that bypasses the conscious mind and allows direct access to the subconscious. It allows the critical area to be put aside and objectivity to be obtained. Hypnosis occurs in every person just 5 seconds before going into the sleep state. In hypnosis we prolong this brief interlude so that we can work within its perimeters to accomplish goals.

What Can Hypnosis Do For Me?

Most people know that we only use a fraction of our brain's potential. What most people don't know is that Hypnosis can be a tool for unlocking the deep power of the human mind. "If you can conceive it and you can believe it, then you can achieve it!"

The End of Suffering

By Susan Verhoogt, Reiki Master & Intuitive Life Coach @ the Divine Mine

Growing up in the west, we might have heard statements like : “We have a free will; we live in a free country and we can do as we please”, etc. But is that really so? Are we truly as free as we think we are?

Physically, it might appear that we are free, especially when we compare ourselves with other cultures where dictatorship rules. We are relatively free to express our opinions. This is a relative freedom in the outer world. When we look at the inner world, it is a different story. In the west, we are at the mercy of a mind based society. When we are at the mercy of the mind, it causes suffering. Our lives lived through the mind is like riding a wild horse. When we can see this, it is the end of suffering. Nothing outwardly needs to be done to end suffering; ending suffering is a choice that can be made when one becomes aware that one is suffering. Then our actions will flow accordingly from this place.

I would like to use a personal example to illustrate. Today, my wallet disappeared with about 8000 rupees (equivalent to about $200 CAD) in it as well as my credit card. At first, I got hit by huge fear and anger. This lasted for a while, but then I started to realize that I had a choice. I took the action according to what I could do in that moment, and that was all I could do. Me fretting about it just made it worse, and what is the point? Of course the mind went on and on about what I could have done to prevent this from happening and all kinds of other things to judge and blame. After I became aware that this is simply the play of the mind, I choose to end it right there. How did I do that? Simply by applying awareness, and not rejecting the feelings and play of the mind in that moment. Einstein has a beautiful saying: “A problem can never be solved with the same mind that created it in the first place.”

Instead of suppressing anything, I invited the whole experience in; I intensely felt the experiences of fear, anger, etc. but with awareness – I was in the experience and the witness a the same time. Through this, it all softened and things got put in perspective again. I looked at the children of the workers here that were playing with water bottles. I just found out the other day that the children are being fed by the ashram daily for free as their parents don’t have enough food. (Paramahamsa Nithyananda says that no one in the world should ever go hungry.) Then I realized that I had taken things for granted – that I am abundant, no matter how much money I have. I felt a sense of gratitude and trust fill my being and a smile crossed my face. There is so much to be grateful for in life! Why not focus on that? What is 8000 rupees? Is it really worth feeling miserable over, for it to ruin my day? I decided that it wasn’t, and my inner space got filled with bliss and joy. Simply applying awareness and choosing was all that was needed.

To me, it was very clear that it was not the suffering itself that was a problem, but our attachment to the suffering. The mind likes to be right, and tends to cling to it as a self-identification. Are we willing to give up the attachment to suffering? Do we choose righteousness or freedom? Whatever we choose, it is up to us.

Love and smiles,
Susan

Time for Change

By Kristyne Dahl, Hypnotherapist & Spiritual Counselor @ the Divine Mine

These days life is pretty busy, it seems there is never going to be an end to it all. It’s time to see the opportunity for change is right now, especially when it comes to making those changes you have been putting off for far too long now.

It’s important to remember that you have the power to make the changes in your life whenever you wish to, and what better time than now. It’s all about changing the way you do things. Take baby steps of course but it’s time to make the effort to change the way you approach life  (if it isn’t working for you).

When it comes to making changes that will absolutely be life altering (in a positive way) it’s crucial to have a plan. It takes time to create the plan but once you have it you can follow it easily and stay the course.  Most human beings become more proficient at making the necessary changes when they have an easy to follow clearly defined plan.

If you feel challenged at being able to clearly define what it is you want and how you want to get there, there’s good news for you. The opportunity to use your creative side, so you can clearly see what you want for yourself and your life is here now.  This is a time when you can access more of the resources within and come up with a clear picture of what you want your life to look like.

So the question is how committed are you to making your life what you want it to be?  You see in my experience only those who commit 100% to making the necessary (behavioral and habitual) changes needed in order to create the most ideal life, follow through with the planning process and then implement the plan.  No matter what, each and every day we have control over what we are doing, whether you like it or not, and since you are already working hard you might as well create a plan so you can eliminate the need to overwork and under-enjoy your life.

As I always say, life isn’t meant to be a struggle…yet most of us continually choose to participate in struggle, primarily due to a lack of planning. I believe that in order to eliminate this unnecessary struggle it simply comes down to making that plan.  When you have the plan there in your face each and every day, it’s hard to struggle.
What you need to really get is that you are worthy of having a more pleasant and enjoyable life but you and only you can give that to yourself. You must make the choice to invest in you. For some making this kind of investment is scary (for whatever reason) but I am here to tell you that you really are worth it and the investment will pay off a hundredfold I promise you that. You will see your fear dissipate as you create a plan (broken down into baby steps of course), and then begin the process of following the plan to create the desired change.  Understand that even though you and only you can make the necessary changes there are resources out there that can help you help yourself.

Start today for no good reason, other than you have been working far too hard for far too long.   Do whatever it takes now and you will see in a short time that your life is yours and it’s far more rewarding to live according to what you want your life to be.

Also don’t forget that there are many resources available to you that can aid you every step along the way. I know a lot of people agree that the Divine Mine is one of those resources that really does make a difference in day to day living.  Just in time to help you with creating this plan our Angel First Aid evening and the full moon meditation this month will enable you to gather more insight and details as to how to create the perfect plan for you. I know I am always happy to help and so are the other talented and resourceful practitioners at the store, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need the help.

Just do it now…cut out all of the excuses, get over yourself (if you need to) and get on with it. It’s time for change!!!

Sun in Pisces 2010

By Carl Klimuk, Astrologer, Master Herbologist & Wholistic Practitioner @ the Divine Mine

Aries
This is a spiritual and artistic month for you.  Escape in a good book or go to the movies or theater.  You may also find yourself multitasking more than usual, so don’t be surprised if you find time going a little bit quicker for you this month.  You have the ability to state your thoughts and ideas strongly now.  This is a good month for brainstorming, organizing your thoughts and ideas, planning or plain old fixing things!

Taurus
Also a spiritual and artistic time, but you might find this to be a particularly social month for you.  Invitations and more invitations!  Going out and inviting friends over will be a major theme.  You may be feeling more generous and your popularity rises. Indulge yourself and your loved ones. Share your adventures and philosophies and set goals for yourself. You need to make sure that your behavior does not become over-indulgent or extravagant.

Gemini
Time to unroll those old gym clothes and get exercising!  This is a good time to dissipate excess nervous energy and stress through the body via exercise, if you don’t it will have to come out one way or another and the usual way is a cold or flu.  Many of you will be feeling a little disconnected, take this time to prioritize your life or set limits for yourself.  You may also find yourself working more than usual so make sure you give yourself some more “you time”!

Cancer
This is a social month for you where you may have to comfort friends or you will find comfort in them.  Many of you may also feel a need to escape in order to self reflect upon your feelings.  You will be hungry for knowledge and information.  Find an artistic outlet that feels comfortable or gives you pleasure, dance, paint, write, sing, anything artistic will do.  This will help you better understand the direction you need to take in certain areas of your life.

Leo
Organizing and fixing up your home will be a theme this month, so literally repairing leaky faucets or roofs to setting up new furniture sets will take up a fair bit of your time.  Many of you will also be fixing up family problems or family based relationships.  Many will find a tug of war occurring between their home & family responsibilities and career, balance is key.  Insecurities or emotions may run high at work, make your home an oasis for escape & regeneration.

Virgo
This is a highly creative and productive time to express yourself in your career.  A work month, many will feel work is somewhat chaotic which will call upon you to be more organized.  Others will feel disconnected from their work and needing some kind of change.  Find the fun that may have been lost in the work that you do.  If you can’t then try to focus on your strengths in order to help you regain your confidence.

Libra
Don’t be surprised if you find yourself trying to fix the world this month!  You will take on the teacher’s (or the preacher’s!) role.  This is a time for you to express your philosophies or ideas to those around you.  Try not to get too caught up in details, think bigger picture this month.  Too much pent up stress could cause a few health problems so make sure you find the time to comfort or pamper yourself as a way to release.

Scorpio
This is a fixer upper month for you!  This is a good month to get some projects done.  This is not a month to procrastinate, get to work or the universe will force you to work.  Productivity runs high at home, within relationships and in work.  This is a good time for you to make changes where they are needed, this includes your health.  Organize your time by prioritizing.  Amongst all of the work find the time to entertain yourself, this is a work hard play hard kind of time.

Sagittarius
A very social month lies ahead. For singles this may be a good time to find love, at the very least put yourself in a position where you could meet new people.  For those in a relationship this is supposed to be a time where you should feel more comfortable with stepping out of your routine, remember that variety is the spice of life.  This is a good time to throw a party or get together with friends, indulge in the senses more and appreciate what you have and not what you want.

Capricorn
You may be hungry for knowledge, education beckons!  Go to the bookstore, library or surf the internet this month.  You may find yourself drawn to the self-help section.  Find a balance between both giving and receiving, give to those in need but also give to the areas of your own life that are in need as well.  Exploration and investigation are your keywords this month.  Let go of old habits or ideas that are holding you back.

Aquarius
The social groups surrounding your work & career will come into focus this month.  You are meant to take on more of a leadership role amongst your friends and in your work environment.  Don’t be surprised if work seems a bit chaotic at times which is why you’re planning and organization skills will be required more.  Going out with friends might seem like more of an obligation this month because of their need of you to help them solve their problems.

Pisces
This could be a time of revolution, chaos or change for many in their work environment, or it could simply become a very busy hectic month in that arena.    For many it will be a great time to creatively express your artistic talents or potential.  For others a soul searching period that asks you to find the best way for you to be of service to the world.  Inventively organize old or stagnant areas of your life, a good nights sleep will do wonders for helping to achieve greater clarity.

Carl will be facilitating a Lunar Astrology 101 Workshop on Saturday, March 13th. Carl also facilitates an Astrology Basics Workshop on Saturday, March 27th.
