Services Update
Aromatherapy Massage
Combine the benefits of a therapeutic (or relaxation) massage with the amazing healing properties of essential oils. Essential oils can help treat a myriad of problems as well as help to relax and rejuvenate. After a discussion with our aromatherapist, she will know what your healing goals are as well as have an idea of what scents you like and dislike. While you get ready for your massage, the aromatherapist will then mix your custom blend with our fantastic massage gel that will be perfect for you and your treatment. The massage therapist will use your custom blend during your massage and at the end of your treatment you get to take your custom blend home; you can then keep it for your own personal use or bring it back for your next regular massage (you would only be charged for a regular massage if you already have the blend). The cost of the 1 hour treatment including your personal massage oil is $105. Click here for more information.

Why is God Laughing?
The Path to Joy and Spiritual Optimism
by
Deepak Chopra
In WHY IS GOD LAUGHING? bestselling author Deepak Chopra uses a fictional tale of a comedian and his unlikely mentor to show us a path back to hope, joy, and even enlightenment - with a lot of laughter along the way. This refreshing take on spirituality gives us ten reasons to be optimistic, even in our challenging world, and shows us why laughter from the heart is the healthiest response to life.
Meet Mickey Fellows. A successful L.A. comedian, he's just a regular guy, with his fair share of fears, egocentricities, and addictions. After his father's death, Mickey meets a mysterious stranger named Francisco, who changes his life forever. The two begin an ongoing discussion about the true nature of being. Reluctantly at first, Mickey accepts the stranger's help and starts to explore his own life in an effort to answer the riddles Francisco poses. Mickey starts to look at those aspects of himself that he has hidden behind a wall of wisecracks all his life. Eventually Mickey realizes that authentic humor opens him up to the power of spirit - allowing him to finally make real connections with people.
After taking the reader on a journey with Mickey, Chopra then spells out the lessons that Mickey's story imparts to us: ten reasons to be optimistic, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. Chopra believes that the healthiest response to life is laughter from the heart, and even in the face of global turmoil, we can cultivate an internal sense of optimism. Rich with humor and practical advice, Why Is God Laughing? shows us without a doubt that there is always a reason to be grateful, that every possibility holds the promise of abundance, and that obstacles are simply opportunities in disguise. In the end, we really don't need a reason to be happy. The power of happiness lies within each of us, just waiting to be unleashed. And Mickey Fellows's journey shows us the way.
"Why is God laughing? Good question. Deepak takes us halfway to an answer, to a line in the sand. Then, after we've contemplated the parable of Mikey Fellows, we cross that line and arrive at the liberating answer on our own. What is it? I ain't telling. Read the book yourself!"- Dan Akroyd
"If you're skimming these quotes to see whether you're going to buy this book, don't bother. Just read a bit of chapter five!"- John Cleese
"Why is God Laughing deserves a standing ovation; I couldn't put it down. Deepak Chopra has written another life-changing book that I will definitely recommend to everyone."- Mike Robles, Emmy Award-winning comedian

Earth Saving Tip of the Month
We find the majority of the Divine Mine customers are of like-minds when it comes to finding ways to leave only a beneficial mark on this earth. The book "365 Ways to Save the Earth" by Philippe Bourseiller offers fantastic ideas on how we can help save our Mother Earth. Each month we will share one of the tips from Philippe's book, you may already practice the tip offered, and for this we thank you, however, if the tip is a new idea for you, we encourage you to give it a try! "The lifetime of one human being is nothing on a geological scale, but the traces he leaves behind can be unbelievably destructive". - Philippe Bourseiller
Water your garden in the evening.
Wait until evening to water your garden; during the cooler hours of the night, plants lose less through evaporation, and use half as much water. Also keep weather forecasts in mind: there is no sense watering your garden if rain is in the forecast. (Excerpt from 365 Ways to Save the Earth by Philippe Bourseiller; page # March 25)
More garden tips from the City of Calgary:
During the spring and summer month's water use in Calgary can increase by 50 per cent because of outdoor watering activities. By adopting some water-savvy habits around your home this summer, you can save money on your water bills and still have the pristine lawn and garden that are the pride of the neighbourhood. What can you do to free a river this summer?
Fill a Frisbee: Just one inch- or one Frisbee full- of water over the week from rain or the hose is all your lawn needs to stay healthy. Lay a Frisbee upside down within the range of your sprinkler and time how long it takes to fill. That's how long you should run the sprinkler over the week.
Gather the rain: Let Mother Nature do the watering; capture rain water in a barrel. Just place a rain barrel under the downspout of an eave. Plants like natural water better and you'll feel good about doing your part to free a river.
Leave it three inches long: Mow your lawn no shorter than three inches high and it will shade its own roots from the scorching sun and choke out those pesky dandelions.

Making Sense out of the Non-Sense
By Susan Verhoogt, Reiki Master & Intuitive Life Coach @ the Divine Mine
In last month's newsletter I touched on the shift in consciousness that's happening right now. I would like to explore this a little further in this article.
I can only speak from my personal experience and from what I hear from other people, but one of the experiences is that nothing seems to make sense anymore in all areas of life; career, relationships, home and so on. People experience more impatience and there seems to be race against time that gets increasingly intense. What one could accomplish before in one day now seems to be impossible to get done. If plans are being made, something else happens and the plans have to be changed completely.
I believe that in the process of awakening we move from conditioned behaviors to becoming aware of certain behavior patterns, and if we don't resonate with this anymore, we have the opportunity to change it. I believe that anything can be our teacher, whether it is another person, a feeling, a thought, a belief and even an experience. As Eckhart Tolle describes this beautifully in his book "A New Earth", is that we are awakening out of the dream state, stopping to identify with the stories and see that we are the story teller verses the story itself. When we are identified with the story we can feel overwhelmed with everything, as if we are in the whirlwind of this big hurricane. When we become centered, focusing on our breathing and find that place of stillness within, just observing what the feelings, thoughts and experiences are without fully identifying with them or trying to analyze everything we are moving to the eye of the hurricane. We feel that this whirlwind is going on around us, but we don't identify with it anymore and know that this is not who we are. With this comes an understanding from a deep level, where everything does make sense again. From this place we can see the bigger picture.
It seems so simple: focusing on your breath is all that's needed? You might say: "But I know of all these great techniques I can do to not feel this overwhelm." To me, it is all about simplicity. The lessons that are hidden in these times are huge: letting go of control, allowing things to be as they are without resistance and moving back to your true essence are only a few examples. Back to simplicity, back to being verses doing. A very deep, beautiful journey indeed.

Cancer
June 20 - July 21, 2008
By Carl Klimuk, Astrologer, Master Herbologist & Wholistic Practitioner @ the Divine Mine
The ingress of the Sun into the sign of Cancer signals the beginning of the summer season.
Generally, when the Sun (the central life force of our solar system) enters into a sign it affects every one of us in some way, when it passes into the sign of Cancer it is a time when we are meant to deal with family related issues as well as our home life, relationships & nurturing instincts.
Cancer is the sign that represents the need to nurture in our lives. This is a period when we turn to those things which are of our roots or foundation in our lives such as our families, our homes and our feelings & emotions. It is these things that Cancer reminds us come first in our lives. Whether you see them as positive or negative we are all bound by the ebbs and flows of emotion, Cancer reminds us sometimes how powerful this force can be, it can be arguably considered to be amongst the most powerful if not the most powerful of human forces. Emotion gives us positive experiences such as love, passion, nurturing, empathy and joy as well as the difficult experiences such as anger, hatred, jealousy, sadness & sorrow. In fact the greatest human acts have been driven by emotion, and so have the greatest of human tragedies. So Cancer reminds us to explore & take care of this most powerful of human gifts, and to never forget that in all of our quests to try and tame these most primal of fires, we must not seek dominance & control or complete lack of control, rather a balance and harmony of this thing called emotion.
The period of Cancer it is a time when we feel a greater need to nurture, both externally & internally. During this time we may go through periods of feeling very outward & sociable, these are periods of greater bonding and caring for those close to us such as our family & friends. But equally we can expect to go through periods of “alone time”, these periods are when we feel less sociable and have a greater urge to go within & nurture and take care of ourselves.
Cancer has (like all the Zodiac signs) a planetary ruler, and for Cancer it's the Moon. The Moon will be in the sign of Capricorn at the time of the Solar Ingress. So basically expect this month to be a month of organization, work and order. This may be a month that you will be asked to set limits in certain areas of your life or to finally get serious in others. One of Capricorn is lessons is to do away with procrastination by setting yourself some goals and a clear system in order to attain your vision. Capricorn reminds us that we all need to dream but dreams are ultimately useless if we are simply living in those dreams but do nothing to make them real. Capricorn reminds us that we must act upon our dreams in order to make them real. So find some area of your life that you've been procrastinating or simply dreaming about and start finding a way to make it real.
When we want to take a peak at what could be major issues in the outside world we must use what is called mundane Astrology and look at the houses in a chart for information. Because the Moon will be in the 3rd house region we can expect issues arising around things like transportation of all kinds, railroads, highways, mail and telephone service, magazines, newspapers and maybe even problems with traffic lights or traffic issues in general. Because the 3rd house is all about communication, certain disruptions or news surrounding the media, radio, television, satellites etc... may occur this month.
Carl will be facilitating an Astrology workshop on Saturday, July 19th, click here for more information. Carl also facilitates a monthly Astrology practice group, the first one will be held on Saturday, June 28th, click here for more information.

Completion
By Leslie Martin, Reiki Master, RMT and Spiritual Medium @ The Divine Mine

"Life is the coexistence of all opposite values. Joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, up and down, hot and cold, here and there, light and darkness, birth and death. All experience is by contrast, and one would be meaningless without the other."
- Deepak Chopra
The mirror reflects the imperfections... glassy shadows blurred in the image. An unknown face looking back... decades unrecognized... the soul obscured in the filter. Alone in its isolation... hidden from the present. Life in the distance... memories lost. Fear rises, energized in its intensity. Balance disrupted though the lens of judgment... a slow decay of uncaptured opportunities, appreciation dimmed, a depth unseen & unknown... sadness lingers, holding. The tears, falling, shatter the image.
Glistening in its purity, the pool of water shines forth, giving back... singing with breath, alive in its clarity, the calmness clear... subtle in its flowing forth... love imagined, now here... intention whole, movement forward... the vision protected by strength, of heart, mind, soul. Beauty revealed... the discovery pristine in its youthful one energy, new beginnings encompassed, lovingly embraced in acceptance of All.
The false self now broken, releases its grip, opening to authentic wisdom, inspiration. True soul now living, born new into illumination, enlightenment, healing. Awareness whole from within.
The Soul lingers in eager anticipation of pleasure, adventure, challenge... embracing the collective perspective, opening in the seeking of true expression... feeling, experiencing, loving...
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."
- Neale Donald Walsch

The Weather Oracle
By Carl Klimuk, Astrologer, Master Herbologist & Wholistic Practitioner @ the Divine Mine
These weather forecasts utilize a branch of astrology known as astrometeorology. It studies the phases of the Moon to give us insight as to what each Lunar Phase week holds in terms of the weather. An almanac called "The Weather Oracle" is now available for purchase at The Divine Mine; the summer issue will go into greater detail as to what planets and signs will be affecting the weather locally, nationally and around the globe. So here is a taste of what the weather holds and what you will find in the almanacs. Remember while this is a really fascinating system of weather forecasting nothing is 100%. If there's one thing that Mother Nature has taught us in our studies it's that she's full of surprises!
June 18 - 25 (Full Moon period)
For the first half of this week expect lots of sunshine and warm temperatures, there is the risk however of some passing thunderstorms. The second half of the week will see overall warm days with maybe some cool periods, overall the air-mass should be dry and expect it to be windy at times.
June 26 - July 1 (Last Quarter Moon period)
The first half of this lunar period will see an overall dryer and windier air-mass. A mix of sun and clouds should be the norm along with cooler temperatures. The second half of the week may see a more unstable air-mass; expect more clouds and the greater chance of rain. Daytime heating could generate thunderstorms.
July 2 - 8 (New Moon period)
The first half of the week will see plenty of sunshine and hot weather. There is a possibility however of some scattered thunderstorms. The second half of the week should see the warm and sunny weather continue.
July 9 - 17 (First Quarter Moon period)
The first half of the week will see cooler and maybe windy weather. Expect a mix of sun and clouds and occasionally windy, temps should be on the cool side. The second half of the week will see more in the way of clouds, maybe a scattered thunderstorm. Humidity will be higher, temperatures should be near normal.
July 18 - 24 (Full Moon period)
The first half of this lunar week will see a mix of sun and clouds and warm temperatures. But there is a very good chance of showers. The second half of the week may see a bit of a cooling trend, expect windy periods and mainly sunny skies.
