Mantras for Precarious Times
By Deva Premal
Mantras For Precarious Times is offered as a guide for daily meditation, and includes seven mantras chosen specifically to support us in these challenging times.
Deva chants each mantra 108 times, according to classic Vedic tradition for a mantra meditation practice, and each mantra has a special focus:
Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha (Removing of Obstacles); Om Shanti Om (Peace); Om Shree Dhanvantre Namaha (Healing); Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya (Liberation); Om Radha Krishnaya Namaha (Joy & Bliss); Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namaha (Abundance); and Om Kama Pujitayei Namaha (Sacred Love Making).
Each track is about 7-9 minutes in length, short enough to encourage a daily practice and long enough to feel the power of the mantra. Read more about the meaning of each mantra and how to use them as a meditation practice here.
"I hope they inspire you and enhance your life as they have mine. As my good friend Sharon Gannon says, 'The power is in the repetition.'" With love, Deva
Tracks:
Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha (Removing of Obstacles) (8:07)
Om Shanti Om (Peace) (3:50)

Tea of the Month
Belgian Chocolate Rooibos
| Country of Origin: |
South Africa |
| Grade: |
Choice Grade #1 |
| Cup Characteristics: |
Velvety chocolate smoothness with decadent notes of truffle melting in your mouth.
Excellent combination of cacao and rooibos. |
| Ingredients: |
Luxury rooibos, Calendula Petals, Cacao bean pieces, Natural Flavors.
|
There is an old saying that goes:
You know your diet is in trouble when you count your blessings and chocolate is always the first one.
Well, thanks to this wonderful herbal tea that no longer has to be the case. Why? The answer is simple. Rooibos, the base of the blend, is fat free! Grown in the Cedarberg district of South Africa, the Rooibos plant (Latin: Aspalathus linearis) - in English literally “Red Bush” - produces a tea that is incredibly high in vitamins and minerals (see our chart below). Proponents of the tea claim that it can ease headaches and soothe bodily tension. Best of all, it contains no caffeine.
OK, OK, you’re probably thinking. But what about the chocolate? The Belgian chocolate to be precise? Good questions. As the name would suggest, we’ve blended this wonderfully smooth Rooibos with the all-natural flavoring of Belgian chocolate, a product as synonymous with Belgium as waffles. The tiny country produces 172,000 tons of chocolate per year and has 2130 chocolate shops within her borders – they know chocolate. In fact, the country is so well known for its chocolate that it gets first dibs on all cocoa exports from the entire continent of Africa. We figured that if you’re going to blend anything, much less chocolate, to a top quality Rooibos, it better be the best. Brew yourself a pot today and satisfy your chocoholic cravings – without upsetting your grand dietary intentions! We think our decision speaks for itself. |
Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of tea for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea). Even though milk and a dash of sugar help enhance the flavor character on this tea, it is perfectly acceptable to consume this tea ‘straight-up’
Iced tea brewing method: (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 6 teaspoons of tea into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water]. Please note that this tea may tend to go cloudy or ‘milky’ when poured over ice; a perfectly normal characteristic of some high quality black teas and nothing to worry about!

Spotlight on Services:
Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the principle that certain parts of the body reflect the whole. Reflex points, which relate to all parts of the body can be found in the feet, hands and ears. These points respond to pressure, stimulating the body's own natural healing process. The body starts progressively cleaing blockages, re-establishing energy flows and balancing itself, resulting in better health.

The Greatest Gift
By Susan Verhoogt, Reiki Master & Intuitive Life Coach @ the Divine Mine
Yesterday we had a yoga class here at Nithyananda’s ashram in India on youthfulness. I would like to reflect on this in this month’s article.
First of all, it is good to ask ourselves: What does youthfulness mean to me? And what is aging really? If we were to believe the media we have to look youthful no matter what stage of our life we are in. According to the media, we have to look a certain way in order to be accepted and loved. So we try to keep up and buy all kinds of products to make ourselves look young as long as possible. When you think about it, is looking young truly being youthful? What about other qualities like being playful, innocent, spontaneous and creative? These are all beautiful expressions of youthfulness regardless of any grey hair or wrinkles you might have.
The biggest factors that contribute to aging is stress and worries. When we are stressed and worried it depletes our immune system which makes prone to disease as well as speeds up the aging process. Another factor is what believes we have around aging. Usually we equal aging with being sick and crippled. What if it doesn’t have to be that way? In Nithyananda’s wandering days in the Himalayas he spent time with Yogis that were 300 years old. The idea that we can only live until about 80 years of age is simply conditioning!!! What we believe is what we experience, and our body responds to what we believe. The latest research on this is by Japanese researcher Dr. Masaru Emoto. His research on the effect of words on water crystals has proven that our cells respond to messages. What do we say to ourselves all day – consciously and unconsciously? Our body is a reflection of this!
So, what can we do to remain youthful regardless of our age? A healthy diet, drinking plenty of fresh water, a positive attitude, laughter and meditation and deep breathing are the keys. It is very simple! Meditation and deep breathing will help us to relax, when we are relaxed our body can do the job of rejuvenation and healing. We can examine our attitude towards life and catch limiting and negative mind chatter. Simply watch it happen and don’t resist is a powerful form of meditation. Just do this when you think about it, you don’t even have to set time aside for this. When you catch yourself, just smile. This is the journey, this is the practice. You will see that your life will become more spontaneous and fun!
One last great suggestion I can give; every day, give gratitude for your body. No matter what the media might tell you, your body is an absolute miracle! When we give gratitude for our body the body will respond with health and well being. Enjoy!
Love and smiles,
Susan

Happy New Year
By Kristyne Dahl, Hypnotherapist & Spiritual Counselor @ the Divine Mine

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your family and loved ones. It’s so great to see so many people enthusiastic about 2010. I know it’s going to be a great one. So before I go any further I would like to wish you and yours the best this year.
I have overheard so many people discussing their surprise with all the people who felt 2009 wasn’t a very god year for them, so I thought I would write about how we can all use this last year’s experiences (both the good and bad) to help us move ahead.
So many people are thinking about all of the opportunities this new year has to offer, now if you feel you fit into this category then I am talking to you. There is no better time than now to use a very valuable asset (which is often underestimated) to gain insight to why last year was the way it was for you. The asset I’m talking about is hindsight. I always talk about how enlightening and educational it can be if we use it. So I urge you to take some time now to review the past year, acknowledge what you gained from those experiences in 2009 to help you know where to start now. By applying what you discover through this hindsight review you can make the changes necessary to create a more rewarding and fulfilling year in 2010.
Once you have identified what lessons you want to implement, what you want to create (instead of what you had last year) as well as deciding what you want more of and what you want less of, you will establish a focal point for you & your thoughts. This is critical as it ultimately gives you a clear direction when it comes to what action you will take.
Think of this way if you invest in you and allow yourself to take the time to review the lessons learned from last year, you offer yourself an opportunity to “alert” yourself to where you went wrong. This can be a huge step towards achieving more desirable results this year and going forward every year from now on. This is not a time to justify your thoughts or actions from the last year , it is a chance to see that even the most negative of those experiences offer you the ability to make positive improvements in your reality and that is something you should be grateful for and never defend or justify.
One thing that I need to make clear is that in order to be “alerted” you must be sure to review your results in a non-judgmental way, meaning check your ego at the door. I always suggest that you find a way to look at your situation from the bystander perspective. Then once you have been “alerted” you can commit to affirming and reinforcing this new knowledge and focus each and every day.
By doing this for yourself you will use this year as it is meant to be used for you. You will use it to prepare and arm yourself with the ability, tools and mental focus needed to create what you want now while cementing yourself a new, more positive and rewarding future.
Last year was a very significant learning year for many, so chalk it up to preparation for the more rewarding future that is coming to you now. This year is all about establishing the mental focus and attitude required to create the life you would rather be living. This is the year that you really begin to manifest what you want, which by the way is based on your thoughts, so get it right and keep focused on only those things you want. Then repeat this focus over and over and over again. Do everything in your power to remind yourself of your focus each and every moment of each and every day.
If you do your diligence then by next year you will master the manifestation of this goal and your desired outcome. Just remember the universe is listening and supporting you always!
With much love and light,
Kristyne

2010 "Let's Get Together!"
By Vikki MacKinnon, Master Numerologist, International Lecturer, and Co-founder of the International Academy of Numerology
Wow! We’ve made it! 2009 was a year of extremes and polarities both on a global level and on a personal level. Many people became painfully aware of certain truths about their own lives, and about life in general. Many received unwelcome news or experienced unexpected developments in their personal and professional lives…developments that brought them abruptly back to their true path. Many people withdrew so that they could assess their situation and re-evaluate their priorities. All of this prompted inspired thinking and innovative approaches to some of our global issues as well as personal concerns.
Now, as the end of this year draws near, many people are also seeing signs of greater optimism and a lighter, more expansive energy taking hold. I’ve always liked telling my clients that they are going into a 3 personal year. Now I get to tell the whole world that we are all going into a 3 calendar year!
The number 3 is associated with the inner child, imaginative, creative, open, expressive, and hopeful. It is also associated with the Empress in the Tarot deck, feminine, fertile, expansive, and productive, (when discipline is applied).
On a global level, I think we will see more communication between world leaders and, for some leaders, a greater effort to promote understanding. The voice of women will become stronger this year, and the energy of this number certainly would support concentrated efforts to deal with poverty among women and children.
Political leaders may begin to realize that the future is determined by the quality of education and the opportunities that are available to young people in their countries. My hope is that they will take a greater interest in developing programs that address these needs, although it could be closer to 2011 before ideas that have come forward will actually begin to take form.
It is widely acknowledged that the economic recovery is well underway. For example, here in North America, housing starts, real estate sales, and employment statistics are rising. 2010 will bring reason for optimism in these and other sectors of the economy.
People will be motivated by a strong desire to connect with others. They will want to look their best, so companies that deal with beauty, fashion, and esthetics are in a favourable position for positive growth. Of course, as single people connect there is always potential for romance, which can in turn bring weddings. Keeping in mind that 3 is also a fertile number, there could be an increase in the birth rate.
Appearance will be important, and that includes the appearance of our homes as we open our doors to family and friends. We will likely want to spend money on furniture, art, and accessories for our personal environment.
The energy of 3 brings a need to communicate, to share ideas, information, and wisdom, to be actively engaged in the process of both teaching and learning. This could bring positive growth in the publishing industry, particularly in the area of adult non-fiction. Expect people to be curious this year, and to seek out a variety of learning opportunities, most likely in the way of taking workshops and classes. (If we were going into a 7 calendar year, it would indicate more self-guided study, but this year most people will see the benefits of being in a class.)
I always tell people who have strong 3 energy that they must sing their song. This year will bring greater support for people involved in music and the visual or performing arts.
Yes, that’s a lot of different directions for our time, energy and financial resources. Every number brings both possibilities and potential pitfalls. One of the pitfalls of 3 is scattered energy and lack of attention or focus.
On a personal level, we must make sure that we are honest with ourselves, in terms of how much money we can really afford to pay for goods and services, and how much energy we can direct into certain endeavours. We must be careful not to indulge in criticism, gossip, or embellishment of the truth. We must keep both feet on the ground and see through other people’s embellishments. We must also avoid making promises that we have no intention to keep.
On an international level there may be instances of bravado and idle rhetoric, or strong clashes of will, just as one finds with a couple of two year olds who both think a certain toy belongs to them. Our world leaders will need to deal with facts and be extra diligent in matters of safety and security. (2001 was the last time we had a 3 year, and September was the month in which we felt the full force of that energy.)
For each number we experience, there are proactive choices that can help us gain the most benefit. One of the easiest ways to benefit from the energy of 2010 would be to smile, smile often, and smile at strangers. Get your hands on some good comedy movies and laugh. Better yet, get together with friends and laugh.
Find ways to express yourself in singing, writing or some other artistic medium.
Nurture the children (or small animals) in your life, knowing that, as you do so, you are also nurturing your own inner child.
Take a class, learn a language, visit a new and interesting place.
Avoid distraction. Be mindful of the present moment, and what is going on around you.
The following quote is attributed to the spiritual entity Abraham, as channelled by Esther Hicks: “If you know that all is well, you know all you need to know. And if you know that life is supposed to be fun, you know more than almost anyone else knows.”
All the best to all of you for 2010.
