Book of the Month

The Ten Commitments: Translating Good Intentions into Great Choices

by David Simon; published May 2, 2006

In the spirit of both Eastern and Western traditions, Dr. David Simon shows how changing our mindset from commandment to personal commitment can help us make the life transformations we want and need.

We were raised on the Ten Commandments and unfortunately most of us use the philosophy of "thou shalt not" (eat too much, drink too much, work too hard, etc.) to command ourselves to change. Dr. Simon encourages us to embrace the power of commitment to create a life of greater peace, vitality, love and purpose. Through commitment to be authentic, love more openly, embrace abundance and relax, we can translate our desires into actions that bring about transformation and healing.

"In this fascinating and uniquely insightful book, David explores the core tenets of Western spiritual values and demonstrates how, with a subtle yet powerful shift in perception, the essential truths of East and West merge to create a compelling vision for a better world." - Deepak Chopra

"Written by one of the most brilliant thinkers of our times, The Ten Commitments will take you on an irresistible journey of awakening, providing tangible steps for translating ideas into action and desires into results." - Debbie Ford, bestselling author of The Dark Side of the Light Chasers and The Best Year of Your Life

CD of the Month

Seven Metals Singing Bowls of Tibet

by Benjamin Iobst; published August 1, 1999

"Some years ago Tibetan singing bowls got into my blood and while exploring their sound wave phenomena it occurred to me to see what effect they might have on my bodywork clients", writes Iobst. The most typical response was that the bowls brought their focus so much into the present moment that it was difficult or impossible to be distracted by intruding thoughts or worries. This recording features 25 singing bowls from Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan, reproduced as accurately as possible.

Who Am I?

By Susan Verhoogt, Reiki Master & Healing Touch Practitioner @ the Divine Mine

People have been asking themselves questions like this for a long time. There is a fascination about this question. I believe there are many different layers to what we believe the "I" is that I refer to when I say "I", but there is ultimately but one true self or true essence. The rest is merely an experience. I am one of those people who have always asked myself questions like: Why am I here? Why does everything even exist? Who am I? Who am I not?

When I moved back to Holland for a few months early spring last year I went through a bit of an identity crisis and thus began my quest for self exploration in a way I had never experienced up until then. After having lived in Canada for over 6 years I started to realize that I had derived my sense of self from things like: I live with so and so, I do this and that for a living, I live there and there. And being back in Holland that was all gone. I had lost my story, I had lost all of who I believed myself to be. I started to realize on a very deep level that I was not those things; these were all just experiences - a story that I had started to identify myself with. I was utterly confused, to say the least.

I decided to go on a 10-day Vipassana retreat of no talking, no reading, writing, listening to music - in short; 10 days of being with myself, with all of myself. I started to experience flashes of simply being my true essence. When I came back to Canada a few months after this a friend of mine introduced me to a book called "Emptiness Dancing" by Adyashanti. Several very interesting topics are covered in this book based on dharma talks given by Adyashanti. ( Dharma is the Buddhist description for "Ultimate Truth"). There is a chapter in this book that talks about the ego.

Adyashanti explains that the ego doesn't exist as some kind of entity, but that the ego is merely an idea, a label for a movement to which we have attached our sense of self. Wayne Dyer also talks about how we can never get an "ego-ectomy" done, because it doesn't exist as such. It is simply a stream of thoughts and beliefs that we have come to identify with.

This is not just some philosophy - to me this is truth. It makes so much sense. To assist you on your journey to self discovery Susan will be holding "Satsang" meetings/ meditations at the Divine Mine called "Rise and Shine at Divine Mine" where topics like the one mentioned above will not only be discussed but also explored and experienced through meditation. Susan doesn't want you to believe something just because she says it, but to give you the experience and some information so you can find out for yourself what your truth is.

The first Satsang meeting/meditation will be on Friday February 1 st. Click here for more information.

Susan will also be facilitating an Animal Communication workshop on Monday, February 25. Click here for more information.

Aquarius
January 20 - February 18, 2008

By Carl Klimuk, Astrologer, Master Herbologist & Wholistic Practitioner @ the Divine Mine

The ingress of the Sun into the sign of Aquarius signals the midpoint of the winter season.

Generally, when the Sun (the central life force of our solar system) enters into a sign it affects every one of us in some way, when it passes into the sign of Aquarius it is a time when we must look at the areas of our lives that need some shaking up, it is also a time to concern ourselves with our social sphere such as our friends, and to look beyond our selfish natures and pay more attention to groups, organizations and ultimately the greater needs of humanity.

Aquarius is the sign that encourages us to seek out revolution and change when an existing structure no longer serves its purpose or is corrupt. Aquarius understands that true power comes in the form of the relationships that we build with others. Strong bonds with others are the glue that holds our societies together, once that social glue disintegrates into the abyss of selfishness the fabric of everything that we have built begins to crumble. We see this very problem today. The more we fall into the destructive path of selfishness; we disconnect ourselves with the needs and feelings of those around us. The result, the disintegration of family, marriages, morals, ethics, values and ultimately laws and civilized society itself. Isn't it interesting to see how selfishness and materialism has been promoted by the powers that be, the more we separate ourselves from our fellow human beings the more control we give to those who would enslave us in fear and darkness. Aquarius is the group consciousness, the promoter of rights and freedoms, Aquarius teaches us to stand up for not only ourselves but for all. Aquarius is the one that shouts "united we stand, divided we fall!" Aquarius is the sign that promotes the idea that it takes a community to raise a child. Aquarius is the one that shouts, "People should not fear their governments, governments should fear their people!" Aquarius is like a super hero with a cape, wherever there is corruption, wherever there is fear, the philosophy of Aquarius will come flying in to save the day.

So look to your own life and see where you may have disconnected from those around you. Find a way to reconnect, Aquarius teaches us that sometimes in order to build we have to sacrifice. Joan of Arc and many other great revolutionaries both in philosophy and spirit understood this sometimes necessary compromise. Help out your human family who may be suffering in your neighbourhood, city or world. What's not working in your life anymore? Where have you become stagnant? What do you feel is unjust or unfair in your life or in those around you? Take the lesson of Aquarius and change your world should you need to!

Aquarius will govern over the 1 st house region this month indicating a time that is meant to focus on our physical bodies and health. A good month to go to the gym or start some new exercise routine. Some may get a cold or flu, some may feel highly energized. Issues surrounding our image to those around us will come into play, this may be a month where people will pay more attention to the details of your appearance or how you present yourself to the world. This is a month to get noticed! This is also a good month to build up your courage to be able to confront or get something that you want.

When we want to take a peak at what could be major issues in the outside world we must use what is called mundane Astrology and look at the houses in a chart for information. Uranus the ruler of Aquarius will be in the 1 st house region this month which can indicate issues surrounding health care or vaccinations may come up. This may also be a month where unfortunately incidents of violence may make the news. Power lines, power plants or electricity issues may also make headlines. Accidents especially traffic may be higher than normal.

Carl will be facilitating an Astrology workshop on Saturday, Febraury 16. Click here for more information.

Be

By Leslie Martin, Reiki Master, RMT and Spiritual Medium @ The Divine Mine

"Love comes from the heart
Attachments come from the mind"
- Susan Kramer

"I want.
I want more."

The ego shouts, demanding to be heard... respect, an ultimatum... obedience commanded. The Drama... an addiction to quell the incessant struggle, petulant crying nearing insanity, a forced craving of negativity, frustration burning... pushing the limits of trust, identity in the having, resistance an obsession... control, a depression.

Clinging to the sides, muck & debris litter the banks, clogging & blocking the natural, smooth flow of the river, the embankment a holding of twigs, mud & clutter, the murky water reflecting a cloudy, confused abyss of darkness, a death lingering... a mess stagnant.

The soul listens, the wisdom of guidance accepted in the moment, the spontaneous flowing of expression, silence the peaceful, inner sanctuary, an ever evolving rebirthing, rediscovery, reinvention... The Path. The roaming spirit reinvigorated and still... opening clear, pure, intentional, grateful love... a balanced centering of self, calm expansion from within...

Unfettered and free, the river glides... the translucent watery sheen glowing in warmth from the sun's rays, illumination & clarity in its magnificent, undiscovered depths... Beauty in simplicity, an uncharted, yet smooth course, clear from the beginning, following its own path forward, ever flowing...

"I detach from what I want to let it come in."

The river, in its flowing, enters... becoming the ocean.

"I wish every human life might be pure transparent freedom."
